How I Clean my Brushes

I recently cleaned my makeup brushes and decided to post how I do it.  I use warm water and this product that I found at Shoppers Drug Mart! The Quo brush cleaner really gets the deep down makeup out. I recently found this rubber cleaning mat at Winners and picked it up and boy I'm glad I did.  I works so much better then just using my hands and rubbing it out! All these brushes, I cleaned in less than a half an hour.  I do try to make sure that I don't get too much water in the shaft, as to not compromise the integrity of the glue!  You can purchase it for $12.00 at Shoppers.  They also now carry a Rosewater One too!

I spray the bristles of the brush with two pumps of the Quo cleaner and gently work it in with my fingers, then I add a bit of warm water, and work it in. I then rub the brush against the cleaning mat. My brush cleaning mat was a gift last Christmas, but you can find a great deal Cleansing Silicone Mat at Sephora for $18.00 here.

You gently rub against the mat until the mat becomes clear and the water becomes clear, then you know that you have cleaned out all the left over makeup in the brush. Again gently squeeze out the excess water and shake the brushes to get all the last bit of water out before laying them to dry.

I do this with every brush and it lay them on a dry face cloth. I then clean the mat off with soap and water to make sure there is no bacteria left on it and it's ready for next time.

I leave them to dry for around 24 hours before using them.  Keeping your brushes clean helps to ensure the life span of good brushes and also keeps you from using brushes that have bacteria from unused product on them, thus keeping your skin clean and clear of acne and breakouts, and clogged pores!

You invest a lot of money in good brushes, please take care of them! How often do you clean your makeup brushes? Which cleaner do you use for cleaning your brushes?

*Brushes shown in picture are Crown Brushes, MAC Brushes and Sigma Brushes and are all my own.

Until next time
